Hi, I’m Amaya Hush!

I graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a B.A. in Graphic Design and a minor in Web Application Development, and I am now in my second year of graduate school at NC State, studying Graphic & Experience Design. I have had the opportunity to grow my skills as a Graphic Design intern at Carowinds and Coastal Carolina University’s Marketing Department, and I am currently expanding my research and design experience as a research assistant with the Laboratory of Analytical Sciences (LAS). Like many, my love for art started young. My mom, a preschool teacher, introduced me to books, paint, colors, and building blocks that made the world feel like one big canvas. In high school, I chose a concentration in graphic design (yes, I had to “pick a major” in high school—terrifying!). It was there that I found community and creativity, but I was also left with one of my favorite questions: Why? That “why” led me deeper into design, beyond visuals and into connection.

I realized I was not just interested in what I was designing, but for who and why. How could design impact lives, shift culture, or give someone a sense of belonging? That search led me to UI/UX, the missing piece I had been craving: empathy. I am inspired by the Black women who paved the way for me, and I aim to carry that legacy forward by creating work that empowers communities and stories too often overlooked. My goal is to keep designing with intention, empathy, and purpose.
